APPRENTICE SHEET METAL

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the layouts, fabrication, installation, and assembly of ductwork, housings, hoods, roof top units, and other equipment necessary for heating, air conditioning and/or ventilating, under the direction of a Journeyman Sheet Metal worker.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in planning sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction trades.

  • Assists in assembly and installation of ductwork, dampers, louvers, registers, grilles, and diffusers. 

  • Assists in setting of equipment such as roof top units, chillers, boilers and air handling units.

  • Secures equipment and related ductwork.

  • Assists in fabrication work (shop and some field) will include layout, cutting, fabricating, insulating, forming and assembling ductwork (round and rectangular)

  • Shop work will also include loading and unloading of ductwork, equipment and tools for transport to and from job sites.

  • Assist Journeyman Sheet Metal with various tasks including location of parts, tools and equipment, running errands, cleaning, parts running, etc. 

  • Other duties as may be assigned

  • Comprehend and make inferences from written material

  • Use various tools and equipment, including but not limited to saws, hammer drill, ratchet cutter, turbo torches, jack hammer, and various other hand tools.  

  • Will be responsible to periodically operate forklifts, aerial lifts, scaffolding, scissor lifts, and ladders, ensuring safe operation by self and other direct reports.

  • The employee must be able to frequently lift, push, pull and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally exceed this limit.

  • Employee must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds; operate forklifts, aerial lifts and scissor lifts; endure heights, extreme at times; and endure confined/tight spaces.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee will be exposed to varying conditions, including but not limited to extreme hot, extreme cold, low light, bright light, tight spaces, open spaces, clean spaces and dirty spaces.

  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderate at times.

JOURNEYMAN SHEET METAL

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Layouts, fabrication, assembly and installation of ductwork, housings, hoods, roof top units,
and other equipment necessary for heating, air conditioning and/or ventilation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction trades.

  • Assemble and installs ductwork, dampers, louvers, registers, grilles, and diffusers. 

  • Responsible for the setting of equipment such as roof top units, chillers, boilers and air handling units.

  • Secures equipment and related ductwork.

  • Fabrication work (shop and some field) will include layout, cutting, fabricating, insulating, forming and assembling ductwork (round and rectangular)

  • Shop work will also include loading and unloading of ductwork, equipment and tools for transport to and from jobsites.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of other workers, including apprentices and general laborers.

  • Assigns workers specific duties, trains new workers in the use of equipment and tools.

  • Acting Foreman will be responsible to keep accurate daily logs of all jobsite activities and incidents; enforce safety regulations and approve time records.  

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a licensed Journeyman Sheet Metal worker 

  • Draw, interpret and read graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids

  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria, and visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings

  • Comprehend and make inferences from written material

  • Use various tools and equipment, including but not limited to saws, hammer drill, ratchet cutter, turbo torches, jack hammer, and various other hand tools.  

  • Will be responsible to periodically operate forklifts, aerial lifts, scaffolding, scissor lifts, and ladders, ensuring safe operation by self and other direct reports.

  • Minimum of four years sheet metal experience, preferably in a commercial/industrial setting

  • Good communication skills, including verbal and oral

APPRENTICE PIPE FITTER

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Assist in the lay outs, assembly, installation, repair and maintenance of piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating and industrial processing systems, all under the direction of a Journeyman Pipe Fitter. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in locating and marking position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.

  • Assists in selecting type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.

  • Assists in cutting pipe, threading pipe, assembling and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead and plastic.  

  • Assists in joining piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, welded or cemented joints.

  • Assists in securing pipes to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers.

  • Assist Journeyman with various tasks including location of parts, tools and equipment, running errands, cleaning, parts running, etc. 

  • Other duties as may be assigned.
